Alt Tag
By Guy Mclaren
I just read an article about the alt tag that must have been about 500 words. It's way simpler than that. Search engines don't read images. They don't see pretty pikchas. They are only capable of viewing text. So an img src tag is seen by the search engines like this. <img src="images/image1.jpg"> If there is no alt tag to describe the image the search engines have no clue of the content suggested. Add an alt tag and you give the search engines a clue because this is what they will see. <img src="images/image1.jpg" alt="green eggs and ham being swallowed by the oompah loompahs"> Judicious use of alt tags allows you to further optimise your web page. Any Americans wanting to complain about my spelling of the word optimize should be aware that I am from an English speaking part of the world where we spell correctly. Z is for Zebra and Zephyr and a few other words in the Oxford dictionary.
Guy McLaren has been married for ever(OK, only 19 years) He is a photographer and web developer based in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga and Pretoria, Gauteng South Africa

Sometimes the fewer words said the better. Your's is definitely a much clearer explanation of the Alt Tag. Rosemary
In English we can all understand, too.

yet some rockit signtist left me this critique According to the screener, this intel might benefit from: # The addition of unique information. Too much of the intel is common knowledge. # The addition of more extensive information.
Could you add the picture of the "green eggs and ham being swallowed by the oompah loompahs"? I would like to see that!
CONTRIBUTOR'S REPLY
