Charity, Poverty and happiness
By Guy Mclaren
I read on an intel that success does not mean money, It could be many other things that make for success. Now I am aware that you can be succssful at many different facets of your life, but here is a tip for you the world will judge you based on your income. When I tally my list of successes I am happy to take credit for a lot of stuff that I don't really control, but I know that if I had done things differently the reality of those successes would vary. I take credit for having well adjusted kids with optimism, individuality, drive and sense. These things came to pass because I always allowed my kids to make decisions. I would guide them and if they chose to ignore me, the consequences would soon teach them that bad choices lead to bad consequences. My son came home yesterday and has had to make subject choices for the final stretch in High School. He could easily have chosen the easy route, but he did not. Is this my success, hell yes, My influence ensured he did not choose the easy way. He has chosen not to do drugs even though his peers seem to be be a lot of addicts. He chose Higher grade Maths when he could have chosen Lower Grade. Yes I am proud of that particular success, but that success makes no difference when I am seeing clients, who watched me drive up in my classic Mini, wearing Jeans and a T shirt. The immediate reaction is one of disbelief, what no Beemer? where are the signs that point to a successful business. Seriously, try this, next time instead of going to a meeting in your beemer, go in a 15 year old car, Don't wear a suit, wear something nice and comfortable from your wardrobe, something a little tatty and see if you get the same results. People in today's world are superficial, They like the trappings. Your car is more important than your home, nobody but your friends see the house anyway. That is the reality of life. I actually saw a blog once where someone exclaimed that a sales rep had walked up to her office, she was horrified that someone would actually visit her without a car. Anyway back to the point at hand, People living in poverty are not happier than those frolicking on yachts. People frolicking on yachts may be unhappy because their nails broke, or their cat died or maybe they are just bored, but here is the thing take any person that has lived a life of poverty and give them the advantages of the rich, like not worrying about where the rent money is going to come from, or how they are going to feed the kids on 64c and I bet the stress relief alone will buy a real sense of happiness. The poverty stricken are often generous, offering way more than they can afford, yet this does not make them happy people. The rich are often tight fisted who give no more than they have to, but both of these people would not be altered if their roles were reversed. The man of generous spirit will remain generous, The uncharitable man will remain uncharitable. These factors neither make them happy or unhappy. Happiness comes from within, yet stress can relieve anyone of happiness in an instant. Today I come to you with a proposition, lets help relieve some stress, Fathers have daughters and sons with great potential, yet paying for an education is not within grasp. You can contribute to an education fund today, even $10.00 will be a step toward a young South African getting an education and being released from poverty. Visit the website below, Contact Us and pledge a contribution, We will send you the banking details so that you can contribute. Generosity comes from within, Giving does create joy and happiness for both parties.

Wealth has absolutely nothing to do with happiness. Happiness is a state of being. It is aglomerated from the many facets of your life by a latent desire not to be sad. I have been wealthy and am currently in deep poverty. In neither state can I say that I was more happy. Sadness is not an option. My children have all turned out well and I am proud of them but I accept that my contribution was only a small part of the over-all character building process. Surprisingly enough, I feel that my wife had some influence as did their siblings, peers and heroes. Stress is a factor in all peoples' lives - it is how that stress is handled that is important. Not the fact that there is stress.
